The Power Block was built on Mill Street(Lake Avenue in 1992) in 1900 by George H. Ely sone of Heman. Much of the electric power needed to light the city was furnished from the Power Block. Later the Metropolitan Hotel at the corner of Washington Avenue and Depot Street was torn down and the block extended to Washington Avenue. When David Troxel acquired the property to manufacture teh Troxel bicycle saddles it became known as the Troxel building. The Ely Realty Company was housed here as was the Troxel Manufacturing, which occupied the entire top floor.
Two years ago Jim Slone bought Jim's Coffeehouse. Jim spent 35 years at General Motors but had always wanted to own his own small business. When the opportunity to own Jim's came up he jumped at the chance! Since then he has loved the chance to serve the downtown area. Jim likes to make every customer feel like family. He believes we are the equivalent to Cheers, only the strongest drink served is the Blue Moon or espresso! Almost everyday you can find Jim behind the counter taking orders and delivering food or beverages to different tables. He has loved the experience of meeting new people and making new friends.
